The next day we headed to Victoria Palms for the annual
Titanium Owner’s Group lunch. It was fun to see Dave and Diane whom we had met
and the cruise and also to see our friends that we have made over the years at
the various rallies and events.
Later that afternoon we headed over to Rick and Judy’s house
warming party. Their friends from the
Dundalk area who stay in other parks provided the music and Judy and Rick put
on a great spread of food and drinks. They
have done a wonderful job of cleaning / renovating and adding a carport /addition
to the park model they purchased.
On Friday February 14, Paul flew home to Ottawa to attend
his Uncle Stanley’s funeral in Montreal.
Coming from a small extended family, this was Paul’s only uncle who had
been good to him when he was growing up.
While Paul was gone, Jane attended the Canadian supper on
February 15th and even got Paul’s dinner to take home. She went to the Punches Family concert on the
16th and went with some friends to Mexico on a short shopping trip.
For a change of cuisine, they ate pizza in an Italian style Mexican
restaurant.
Later that week, Judy and John from Victoria Palms and
Michel and Riette from Brownsville, came to the Longhorn Cattle Company to try
BBQ in this part of the valley. After
dinner, Jane gave them a tour of the park.
Bonnie and Jack hosted a delicious and authentically Italian
pizza party on February 21st. The weather was wonderful and we had a
fun time.
Jane & Myrna took an afternoon to visit the Harlingen
Museum’s Quilt exhibit from the National Quilt Museum in Kentucky. We were amazed by the beautiful art work –
especially Jane whose sewing skills are so limited.
On Saturday morning the 23rd, 11 of us left the
park at 6:30 a.m to go on a Shelling trip on South Padre Island. It was cloudy
and cool and as the day wore on, the temperature fell and a light misty rain began. The trip was supposed to be 5 hours but after
3, we all had gathered enough shells that we decided it was time for a warm
lunch at the ShrimpHaus restaurant.
Later that evening, Jane went to the Harlingen airport to
pick Paul up. Although she complained of the cool day on the island, he had no
sympathy after his 8 days in the frozen north.
Paul was pleased to return to Fun N Sun and find that
Lippert Axles had finally sent the correct replacement part – so he quickly
installed the new hub assembly.
Our friends Doug & Linda spent a month in Florida this
year but decided to come to Fun N Sun on a house hunting trip. Although there
are many units for sale in the park, nothing quite suited them so they headed
back north to western Ontario. While they were here, we had a great visit and
look forward to their return in January 2014.
On February 25, the Aquacise class held a pot luck which was
fun although the men weren’t thrilled about eating dinner at 4:00 pm.
Western Days, sponsored by the park’s singles group was lots
of fun and a great success. They raised
$2700 which they donated to the San Benito Boys and Girls Club.
On the 28th, we went to the ABBA tribute concert,
sponsored by Encore Corporation. There were over 800 people in attendance, many
of them from outside the park including our friends Michel and Riette. Thanks
to Myrna buying tickets in October, we were near the front and could hear and
see well.
The principal of Fred Booth Elementary School where 5 of us
are volunteering, gave us each a gift basket to thank us. The photos are of all
the Grade 5 students gathered in the library (where Jane and Linda have been
volunteering).
