We left Ottawa on January 1, 2014 on an Air Canada flight direct to Fort Lauderdale where we were to board the Legend of the Seas for a 10 day cruise of the South Eastern Caribbean. We were one day ahead of the snow storm that crippled much of the U.S. and delayed many of the passengers who were to sail with us.
The ship was one of Royal Caribbean’s smaller ships but we grew to like it since there were plenty of activities but not huge crowds. Although first two days at sea were extremely rough, we managed to quickly get our sea legs and we even enjoyed the pool which was just like a wave pool.
The cruise itinerary included 5 islands that we had never visited so it was an adventure for us. Our first port was Tortola, British Virgin Islands where we chose a trip to the beach in an open-air bus. The terrain reminded us of St. Thomas with hills surrounding the beaches and windy narrow roads with cliffs on both sides.
St. Kitts was our favourite port due to the wonderful day spent with Rosevelt Taylor aka Texas of Island Paradise Tours. On the way to Romney Manor which is now home to a Batik workshop, he showed us local plants, shrubs and herbs. Our next stop was the Brimstone Hill Fortress National Park, a UNESCO world heritage site with amazing views of the ocean. Our final stop at the Carambola Beach club allowed Jane a short swim and Paul access to local beer and free WiFi.
