2012 Winter Texan season drawing to a close

As we think about heading home soon, we have been trying to pack in all the things we have been planning to do all winter. Jane decided to visit the lapidary shop (nicknamed the rock shop) where she learned how to polish a rock and make a pendant. It looks like this might be a craft that she will try again next winter during the cooler days in January – it is far too nice and sunny now to be inside.

We also have to make some field trips to local restaurants and beauty salons since Jane won some gift certificates at the park sponsored Las Vegas night. We have the used the Texas country dance tickets and have eaten most of the grapefruit that she also won. All the money raised that evening went to local charities including Toys for Tots that Jane volunteers at, so we didn’t mind buying plenty of tickets.

Golden Palms retirement & healthcare center hosted a Winter Texan Farewell Country Breakfast which was well attended by Fun N Sun residents. We enjoyed the breakfast but resisted taking the tour of the retirement suites.

On Sunday March 11, Doug & Sue joined us for church at the Basilica of Our Lady of San Juan Del Valle National Shrine. We enjoyed the Mariachi band which performed the music. We then took them to El Rancho Grande restaurant for a typical Mexican breakfast complete with “divorced eggs” and pork chop rancheros.

Sunday night at the ice cream social was “park appreciation” night so the park manager paid for the ice cream – a first in the time we have been coming here. We then stayed to enjoy the variety show – there is lots of new talent in the park so it was an enjoyable evening.
