On Thursday night we were treated to another of the Rio Grande Valley's hidden gems. We joined fourteen of our friends at Winks Saloon, Grill and Roping Arena. Located on farm to market road 1421 in Brownsville our directions were to cross the railway tracks, turn left and go about 3 to 4 miles down the road until we spotted the saloon.
Modern rustic would be an appropriate description of the two storey building - a massive dance hall surrounded by picnic tables with odd chairs, with an upper deck overlooked the outside rodeo area. During and after dinner the would-be cattle ropers chased some sad looking calves around the ring - but if we were keeping score, the calves won!!
We even got to dance to the Senior Moments Live Band.
Yes, these are fake horns tied onto the calves with chin straps!!The main door had interesting door handles - wouldn't you say??
